One of our good friends turned 58 recently and when we got asked to do the desserts and decorations for her party, we jumped at the opportunity. She had a very casual party at Luke on the Riverwalk. The restaurant did some simple hand passed appetizers and then a coursed buffet for dinner.

The theme of the decor was simple colors – blues, greens, and purples. We used some balloons to give the tables a festive feel and then scattered round place mats in the party colors to give the tables a pop of color. We did small, low hydrangea centerpieces so that the guests could still see over them and not interrupt conversation.

We made two desserts for the birthday girl- the first was key lime pie.

The second dessert was a Pina Colada Entremet. It was a layer of cake soaked in rum, coconut mousse, and pineapple gelee. It was garnished with dehydrated coconut, candied pineapple, and lime whipped cream.
