We adore the “You Are My Sunshine” theme for a little girl’s 1st birthday. Pink, orange and yellow were the main colors and we wanted to make the event young and whimsical for this very special milestone. The party was located at the host’s home and the backyard was a great size to fit all guests. Due to the temperatures, the desserts were kept indoors because we all know how hot it gets here in San Antonio! Here is an overview of the back yard. We just love the bright colors for this event!
Since the fence was so long and it needed a little “spice” we created a tassel garland to brighten up the space.
In addition to the fence garland, we also created a custom banner in the party colors and theme as well as used tissue flowers to brighten up the area.
Let’s take a closer look at the tables. We used brightly colored plastic tablecloths and then created custom centerpieces to compliment the theme. Photos of the birthday girl throughout her first year were the focal point of the centerpiece and the numbered clouds indicated which month the photo was taken.
Another fun feature of this 1st birthday party was a photo frame that guests used in their pictures. Everyone had a blast taking photos with this frame to place in a scrapbook for the birthday girl.
Here are some photos of the frame in action. Such a cute idea!
Below you will see the dessert table, which as we mentioned previously had to be kept indoors due to the warm temperatures. You will notice lots of yellow, pink and orange in the decor as well as the desserts. The custom birthday banner added the perfect personalized touch to the party.
The center of the dessert table was a special surprise for the hosts. We asked for additional photos of the family for this frame and added “You Are My Sunshine” to tie in the theme. We also used little picket fence displays for the cake pops to pair with the photo frame. You can see the cake pop details in this photo as well. Chevron and polka dot patterns in the party colors added some fun to this dessert table. The adorable smash cake is also a great focal point of this display. We worked closely with the party host to customize this cake by taking ideas from several other cakes we saw in this theme.
A combination of candy and pastries were used for this dessert table along with colorful and creative dessert labels. Gumballs, Lemonheads, Nerds, rock candy and Laffy Taffy in pink, orange and yellow were used as a creative way to add color to the display.
Creative names for the candy like “Rays of Sunshine” for the rock candy, “Happy Go Lucky Gum” for the gumballs, “Twilight Taffy” for the Laffy Taffy and “Drops of Sunshine”, for the boxes of Nerd candy added fun to the party.
The sugar cookies and cupcakes were a couple of the biggest features of the dessert table. We can’t get enough of these cupcake toppers which matched the table centerpieces.
Don’t you just love these sugar cookies? ADORABLE!
Last but not least, here is the decorated high chair. We used a combination of ribbons and the ever popular “I am 1” high chair banner with suns. The birthday girl was certainly surrounded by bright colors and sunshine on her special day!
